The official opening of Media Residents;
Press release from 10/17/2017
Gesicht Zeigen! presents: Media Residents
A network for refugees working in media
Berlin – The project “Media Residents” from Gesicht Zeigen! celebrates their official opening at 17.10.2017. We provide a coworking space at Franz-Mehring-Platz 1 in Berlin Friedrichshain with events, frequent workshops and all the technical equipment beginners and professionals with a publication background need to produce media content. All offers are cost-free for refugees and local initiatives.
At october 17th 2017 we opened a coworking space at FMP1 with 20 fully equipped workplaces to research, produce and edit content. The technical equipment (cameras including lighting and audio equipment) is available for free.
Furthermore Media residents provides a studio where you can produce professional videos. The first highlight of many different events will be the workshop week in november 2017.
One of the first guests at the Media Residents coworking space has been german MTV-starlet Wana Limar. She will be at the coworking space regularly to work and to network with the present medial creators. She makes her oppinion very clear: „coworking spaces are a must for publishing media creators. Nowhere else it is easier to get into contact with other freelancers and to proft from the face-to-face exchange in knowledge and information. The availability of technical equipment for refugees lifts the project to the next level in value.“ says the influencer with roots in Afghanistan.
The program for the workshop week
Besides the infrastructure, providing an exchange of knowledge is a main part in the project. During 2 seperate workshop weeks, know-how of the work as a journalist in Germany will be shared and seminars about video production and how to make content go viral will be held. The workshops will be lead by more than 25 experienced professionals and experts in the media branche. Matze Hielscher (Mit Vergnügen) and Ariana Baborie (Herrengedeck) will talk about the marketing of medial content. Further partners are „Linke Medienakademie“, „Jugendpresse Deutschland“ and the „CommunityCamp“, providing lectures about freelancing, photography and social media.
→ The registration for the first workshop week, which will be going from november 6th 2017 until the 10th, is possible under media-residents.de/workshops from now on and is free of charge.
At the evening events during the workshop week, medial creators and those aiming to become journalists are able to connect with initiatives like Eed be Eed and Amal Berlin, two journalistic offers from the capital city Berlin for newcomers, and other dedicated representatives of economy and society.
Another part of the project is to publish in-house produced and curated content on the internet: the webshow „Kein schöner Amt“ starting in november 2017 with 8 episodes will be produced and connected with initiatives, and will not only be relevant to refugees. Main protagonist of the webshow will be Jilet Ayse, the popular role of cabaretist with turkish roots, Idil Baydar. Film maker Benkamin Kahlmeyer (disslike, Germania) was won to guarantee the high quality production.
Once again Gesicht Zeigen! sets a sign for communication and against prejudices
“The get-together of refugees and local media creators sets the similarities over the differences and will help newcomers to set a foot in the door of the media branche”, explains managing director Sophia Oppermann.
From now on the coworking space is open from 10am till 6pm on monday till friday. Informations about events and other offers can be found under www.media-residents.de and will be updated regularly.
